Art Park Players - 2017-18 Season

Drowsy Chaperone

This Tony Award-winning show pays homage to musical comedies of the early 20th century. Music, laughs and surprises abound when an avid musical theatre fan puts the needle down on his favorite vinyl LP of a fictitious 1928 musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The show magically bursts to life with two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a misguided Don Juan, an intoxicated chaperone and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs for an evening of madcap delight. Seymour is a down-and out skid row floral assistant with a knack for plants, but not much else. However, one peculiar plant he’s tending might just be his ticket to fame, fortune - and the girl of his dreams. There is only one little - but ‘growing’ - problem: This plant has an unquenchable thirst for the red stuff (type O, A, or B... he’s not picky). Mixing a catchy doo-wop score, an Elvis loving dentist, and the American Dream, Little Shop of Horrors is screamingly funny, gleefully twisted, and out-of-this-world cosmic fun for everyone.

Songs run the gamut from Broadway to Texas swing, from jazz to twangy country and western. Mismatched lovers who meet on the day of their shotgun double wedding, three generations of feuding families, a magic ring of power, wild west lariat tricks, a synchronized swimming revue, a song and dance tribute to the joys of guacamole, and the sweetest two step ever to slide across a stage add up to this wild comedy, Das Barbecü

The Wedding Singer is a romantic musical comedy about Robbie Hart, the leader of a popular band that plays weddings. While his fiancée leaves him at the altar, his life takes an unexpected turn after meeting Julia, a local waitress engaged to a man who is clearly wrong for her.  This “Guy Meets Girl, Guy almost loses girl to the wrong guy, Guy wins girl” features big hair, big musical numbers and plenty of references to the 1980s, as well as a comical story about finding the right one to grow old with.
